Pictured above is the studio where Dryad Flutes are made using solar powered tools and where Jon Sherman's CD's are duplicated, printed and packaged, also using the renewable, clean power of the sun.  Inside the small green trailer to the right are 8 deep cycle batteries that store the electricity generated by the photovoltaic panels in a 12 volt system.  Connected to the batteries is a 120 volt inverter that provides power for
the flute making tools and desktop CD publishing.

Jon Sherman, who has been performing through a solar powered
sound system since 1988, was interviewed by Toni Guinyard
in this July, 2003 segment of KCET's "Life & Times".

Solar Powered Flute Circles and Gatherings around southern California

Jon Sherman's Solar Sound (solar powered sound system) is currently not available for rental, as it has been in the past, having been converted for use in the making of Dryad Flutes. A scaled down version is being used to power the sound system in the Dryad Flutes booth. (shown to the right) The information below is provided as a record of some recent Solar Sound events and for those who may find it useful in building their own system.

This solar powered sound system is ideal for outdoor events where a moderate decibel level is desired.  Maximum volume from our main loud speakers is 500 watts. 1800 watts of pure sine wave 120 VAC is provided for on-stage needs, guitar amps or keyboards.  1000 watts 120 VAC is available for the 16 channel mix.  Plenty of backup electrical storage, (1740 amp hrs) for cloudy days or nights, or even indoors, is provided by 8 Trojan T-105 deep cycle batteries brought fully charged for the day.  This is a reliable system with many successful events to it's credit.  Give clean, renewable energy a try!
