Under the Oak  click to hear recording of poem

Rock splits
as your tendriled anchor
into terra cleaves.

Hawk sits
midst the welcoming
uplift of your leaves.

Rugged grey bark
hiding tender heart within
and I sitting inside your shade
remember.

Your medicine makes me
remember
that mine own gnarled soul
clinging to the clods
holds up into the yellow star
the curled green leaves
of
each
new
breath

breathing joy
into a cloven heart.
